The 2013 Walk-MS fundraising has begun. Our Walk is Saturday May 18, 2013 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow

100% of your donation will help fund The Kathleen Valachi Memorial Fund for Home Health Aide Assistance Program.

The purpose of this program is to help those who have MS get the home health aide assistance that is sorely needed and for which insurance or finances can?t provide.

The Kathleen Valachi Memorial Fund for Home Health Aide Assistance Program is named in remembrance of my former Yoga Teacher, Laurie Ahlemann’s mom who lost her battle to MS.

100% of your donation to our WalkMS will go directly to this program and will help families, here on Long Island, receive assistance so they can have a home health aide when the need arises, hopefully delaying or preventing long term nursing facility admissions which break families apart.

About Me and why I do this every year…

September 2002 a single mother of three, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I immediately became and still am an active member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Long Island Chapter and the team captain of the Walk MS Team Newly Diagnosed Fight.

Over the past 11 years, myself and my team have collectively raised more than $80,000 for our chapter through my participation in various events, such as WalkMS, bike tours and my third party fundraisers.

In 2008, I designed and implemented an event called  Healing and Moving for a Cure, an annual event that incorporates yoga, meditation, massage, acupuncture, and reiki healings into a day of relaxation. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event were allocated to the Kathleen Valachi Memorial Fund Home Health Aide Assistance Program, and created the program within our chapter which now provides home health aide of individuals living with MS. From 2008-2012 this event alone, has raised over $15,000 towards our collective efforts.

How has this motivated me?

My diagnosis motivated me to begin, ?a quest to not only find inner peace and joy within myself, but to help others find it as well.”

In 2010, I completed my 200 hour Yoga Certification through the Long Island Yoga School. My goals are to continue sharing my love of this physical, mental and spiritual discipline with the Long Island Chapter membership by offering classes in Kings Park, Bay Shore and Woodbury. In collaboration with the Long Island Chapter and the 3 participating yoga studios: Absolute Yoga, Bearfoot Yoga, and Simplicity Yoga Studio. and I as well as these participating studios offer free yoga sessions for people living with MS. We run this FREE Program twice a year, each for 8 week sessions.

“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.”

Please consider making a donation in any amount today, every dollar makes a difference in someone’s life, who is living with MS.

Thank you
